CEDAR RAPIDS (March 21, 2018) –  Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is pleased to announce that two of its nurses – Nicole Sorge, RN, BSN,OCN, and Tracy Wilson, BSN, RN, CEN, SANE-A – have been selected among the 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2018.

Sorge is a nurse at Mercy’s Hall Radiation Center.  She has served as a leader and mentor, starting the cancer center’s current survivorship program. Colleagues describe her as a leader in her department and a responsible and compassionate nurse who demonstrates the hospital’s mission and values at all times.  She has been with Mercy for 16 years.

Wilson is the nurse residency program manager for Mercy’s organizational development department.  She is also a member of the SANE team in Mercy’s emergency department, tending to the needs of individuals who have been sexually assaulted.  Tracy’s colleagues say she’s a role model and mentor for nurse residents, nurse apprentices and preceptors, and always offers a listening ear; comforting encouragement; and helpful, realistic advice.  She has been with Mercy for 14 years.

The 100 Great Iowa Nurses award recognizes nurses who have made meaningful, lasting contributions to their patients, colleagues and the nursing profession, and who are viewed as mentors to other nursing professionals.

Sorge and Wilson will be among the nurses honored in Des Moines in May at the annual celebration of 100 Great Iowa Nurses.
