Make It OK Mid-Week Series:
Make It OK – Linn County, in partnership with the MedQuarter Regional Medical District, is pleased to announce, Make It OK Mid-Week, a three part, free virtual series designed to raise awareness about mental illness and resources available for community members, workplaces, and places of worship. A panel of experts and everyday individuals will share strategies and lived experiences that will benefit you and someone you know.
As we navigate the coronavirus pandemic, nearly half of adults in the United States indicated the pandemic is having a negative impact on their mental health; nearly 20% said a “major impact”(*). According to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), “1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year” and “1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year”. As we navigate these challenging times, it is more critical than ever to move past the stigma around mental illness and offer support.
Make it OK – Linn County is a community initiative designed to change the misconceptions surrounding mental illness and encourages people to talk more openly about mental illness and make it ok to ask for help. “By breaking the silence and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness, we can help our friends, neighbors, loved ones and colleagues feel understood and supported,” said Michelle Niermann, president and CEO, UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids. “UnityPoint Health is proud to be a lead sponsor of this local effort and I encourage you and your family to attend this free series.”
