Is Someone You Love Struggling? New Resource Offers a Menu of Mental Health Services at Your Fingertips

MedQuarter (MedQ) Regional Medical District | February 14th, 2022

GetHelpNowCR.comA new “toolkit” of mental health services and resources is launching today—Valentine’s Day—to offer help and guidance if someone you love is struggling. Local mental health professionals have teamed up to offer a new mobile-friendly website called GetHelpNowCR.com. This web and mobile site is a one-stop shop designed to offer immediate information and assistance to anyone needing mental health guidance in the Eastern Iowa region. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the organizers of GetHelpNowCR.com hope that anyone needing help for a loved one will give them the best Valentine’s Day gift—the mental health assistance they may need.

“Navigating the list of mental health organizations can be overwhelming to some, especially if they’re dealing with mental health issues themselves,” said Kathy Johnson, Executive Director of Abbe Mental Health Center. “We are asking everyone today, ‘Is someone you love struggling?’ Here’s where you can turn—right now—to get the help you need.”

The web and mobile site, GetHelpNowCR.com, contains a community toolkit of options, with mental health guidance at your fingertips, either on a mobile phone or a computer. A menu of services is specially designed to direct users to the best local mental health service for their specific need. Those menu options include guidance for crisis mental health, suicidal thoughts, alcohol and substance abuse, gambling, domestic violence and more. The intentionally simple site features maps and phone numbers to help users get in touch quickly with someone who can help. The site also lists “what to expect” so users can easily determine which service best fits their immediate need.

GetHelpNowCR.com is the result of a group of local mental health professionals joining forces as part of the MedQuarter’s Faith & Medicine Task Force. The group formed to address the need for a simplified means to access mental health services during times of crisis and developed this site over the past several months.

“We’ve all read the headlines about mental health. The global pandemic and its fallout, plus just the everyday challenges of life, are creating a greater need than ever before for mental health services,” said Phil Wasta Executive Director of the MedQuarter Regional Medical District. “We hope GetHelpNowCR.com will help members of our community reach out and connect with the mental health service provider that can help them. If someone you know is struggling, this will help you find the place to turn to and do it fast.”

Wasta also says the many local mental health care professionals who came together, collaborated and created GetHelpNowCR.com should be commended for working together to meet this pressing and growing need of the community.

The MedQuarter is keeping up-to-date on information and resources regarding the pandemic.
