‘Stillness and Occurrence’ John Beckelman Virtual Reception at Gilded Pear
May 22, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
RSVP for ‘Stillness and Occurrence’ virtual reception Friday at Gilded Pear
Gilded Pear Gallery presents “Stillness and Occurrence,” a solo exhibition by John Beckelman. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the gallery is hosting the reception for the exhibit online. RSVP at gildedpeargallery.com. Video call details will be provided to all confirmed guests 24 hours before the event.
Beckelman uses the elemental character and expressive potential of clay to create diverse bodies of work. The artwork featured in his exhibit explore liminal space and often are often referenced as topographic or cosmographic. At the same time, the work attempts to entice the viewer into the inner landscapes and interior spaces of our imagination and memory.
Beckelman’s artwork has been shown in exhibitions throughout the country and has been the recipient of numerous awards, commissions and grants. Following an undergraduate degree (BA English, Philosophy) from Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y., he received his Master of Science and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Ceramics from Illinois State University.
Beckelman taught ceramics, sculpture and three dimensional design at Coe College for 37 years and served as the Art Department chair for 20 years. He now is the college’s Robert O. Daniel Professor of Art, Emeritus. He maintains a studio at the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio in downtown Cedar Rapids.
The exhibition also has been extended to view online until June 13. Anyone wanting to view the exhibit in person may book a private appointment to do so at the gallery’s website or call the gallery at (319) 366-0205.
